Introduction to Module

2. Aim of psychological & sociological studies module
To introduce concepts of sociology and psychology that are essential to the assessment and provision of effective health and social care services.

3. Learning outcomes
1. Evaluate the psychological factors that influence behaviour and may have an effect on health and well-being, and, influence perceptions and responses to health and welfare issues relevant to a specific social issue.
2. Appraise the sociological factors that influence health and well- being. Give reasons why the factors may impact on perceptions and responses to health and welfare issues relevant to a specific social issue of your choice.

4. Students will submit 1 essay per semester for this module.

5. Semester 1
In semester 1 your lectures will cover the introduction of sociological concepts that are crucial to the assessment and provision of effective health and social care services.
The taught sessions are designed to develop your awareness and understanding of:
Sociological explanations for human behaviour.
Sociological factors which influence health and well being.

6.   assessment
Write an essay detailing the sociological factors that may have a bearing on health and well- being. You will need to give reasons why the factors may impact on perceptions of and responses to health and welfare issues in relation to a specific social issue of your choice.
