Part 1. Learning material and objectives content: new senior English for China, student’s book 1 Unit 1----Friendship

4 Ideology: According to the new national English curriculum, “Ss should be able to have strong motive and confidence in English learning and be willing to share or cooperate with other people”. Focus: Arouse Ss’ interest in learning English and making friends, so that they will be willing to cooperate with other students in the following classes.

5 Learning objectives 1.Language knowledge:
Ss should be able to master important words and expressions of this unit by self-learning; Have a general knowledge of Anne Frank and the background, such as German Nazis and WWII by self-learning before class and inquiry learning in class.

6 2.Language skill: Improve scanning skill by finishing the ID card of Anne Frank.

7 3. Affects: Ss should be able to arouse interest in learning English; nurture their sense of cooperation and competition; and enhance understanding of friendship and the qualities of a good friend by expressing opinions about friendship and the qualities of a good friend.

8 4. Learning strategy: Find out how many parts this passage contains by its framework and enhance memories by memorizing words and expressions in a context.

9 Important points: master important words and expressions of this unit; have a general knowledge of Anne Frank and the background, such as German Nazis and WWII; arouse interest in learning English. Difficult point: understand friendship and the qualities of a good friend.

Since our students just graduated from junior high school, they have a certain ability to read, but they are poor in speaking, and autonomic learning and cooperative learning skills. Some students are not active enough in class, and just wait for the teacher’s explanation.

13 Step I Self-learning Intent of design:
enable Ss to be familiar with the words, expressions and the background of this unit, so that it will be easier for them to understand when I talk about them later, because many students will think it’s very difficult and won’t pay attention if there is a long passage on the screen. Besides, words and expressions are the basis, and some of them can help Ss to express their opinions when they talk about friendship later.

18 Intent of design: improve Ss’ scanning skill and enable them to find out the structure of this passage by its framework. This way, Ss will be more interested than just answer some questions like the traditional way.

20 Intent of design: enable Ss to know whether they are a good friend; see whether they are familiar with Anne and the background.

21 Step V Enhance memory Last year, Peter set out for America to study. That was the first time that he had left his parents; as a result, he suffered from loneliness. Meanwhile,his parents were very concerned about his life and safety. Happily, he has gradually settled in America and has been getting along well with his classmates. When in trouble, he tries to find ways to overcome it. It is these little steps in his daily life that have added up to his complete independence. Now, he is no longer tired of college life.
