What is ADHD? Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a group of behavioural symptoms that include inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. Symptoms of ADHD tend to be noticed at an early age and may become more noticeable when a child's circumstances change, such as when they start school. Most cases are diagnosed when children are 6 to 12 years old. Tia Hewitt ( ) Overcoming Barriers to Learning and Participation

How many people have ADHD?
This is what the National Institute of Clinical Excellence 2008 says about ADHD. "ADHD is a heterogeneous behavioural syndrome characterised by the core symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattention. ADHD is thought to affect between 3 - 9% of school age children and young people in the UK (up to one child in a class of 30)" This is why we are seeing more and more children in school diagnosed with autism – and this is likely to continue to grow.
