30 A Very Blessed Father Deuteronomy 6:3-9 Sunday Morning June 18, 2017
by Pastor Fee Soliven Deuteronomy 6:3-9 Sunday Morning June 18, 2017

31 Deuteronomy 6:3-9 3 Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it, that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the LORD God of your fathers has promised you--'a land flowing with milk and honey.' 4 "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! 5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

32 6 "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart
6 "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

33 Being a Dad is a great privilege, but it's also an awesome responsibility!

34 In the Old Testament, there's a story of an evil King in Judah who gives a warning to every father!

35 2 Kings 21:10-12 10 And the LORD spoke by His servants the prophets, saying, 11 "Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations (he has acted more wickedly than all the Amorites who were before him, and has also made Judah sin with his idols), 12 therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'Behold, I am bringing such calamity upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears will tingle.

36 2 Kings 21:19-22 19 Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. 20 And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, as his father Manasseh had done. 21 So he walked in all the ways that his father had walked; and he served the idols that his father had served, and worshiped them. 22 He forsook the LORD God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the LORD.

37 Matthew 19:13-15 13 Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." 15 And He laid His hands on them and departed from there.

38 Matthew 18:1-6 1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

39 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 Whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives Me. 6 "But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.

40 1. Have a Strong Desire to Discover and Fulfill God's will for their Lives?

41 Proverbs 23:22 "Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old."

42 2. Live lives of Faith, Focused on God, Trusting Him for their Needs!

43 Luke 11:1-4 1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, "Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples." 2 So He said to them, "When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

44 3 Give us day by day our daily bread
3 Give us day by day our daily bread. 4 And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one."

45 3. Be Industrious

46 Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it."

47 4. Have the Wisdom to live Today and with Tomorrow in Mind?

48 Psalm 27:1 "The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?"

49  1 Corinthians 15:57-58 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

50 5. Be Encouraging who Lift other People!

51 1 Thessalonians 5:8-11 8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

52  6. Have Prayer Lives that are Genuine, Diligent and based on God's Word!

53  Zephaniah 2:3 "Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the LORD's anger."

54 Psalm 105:1-6 1 Oh, give thanks to the LORD! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! 2 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works! 3 Glory in His holy name; Let the hearts of those rejoice who seek the LORD! 4 Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face evermore! 5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth, 6 O seed of Abraham His servant, You children of Jacob, His chosen ones!

55 7. Hunger for the Word of God, seeking to live according to its principles, and developing a relationship with The Lord!

56 Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled."

57 8. Seek to personally lead others to Christ!

58 Proverbs 11:30 "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise."

59 Daniel 12:3 "Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever."

60 9. Faithfully serve the Lord through their local Church!

61 Proverbs 3:1-6 1 My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; 2 For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you. 3 Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart,

62 4 And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man
4 And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

63 10. Recognize their body as the Temple of the Holy Spirit!

64 1 Corinthians 6:15-20 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! 16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For "the two," He says, "shall become one flesh.”

65 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? God’s. 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s

66 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

67 3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling
3 I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

68 2. What are some of the good examples your dad left you?
1. In what ways have you followed the path of your earthly father? 2. What are some of the good examples your dad left you?

69 3. If there were any negative patterns, what are you doing to make sure that you are not repeating them or passing them on to your children. 4. If you are a father, what qualities do you most want to pass down to your children?

70 5. How are you modeling these for them?
6. What changes would you like to make in order to become a more Christ-Like example?
