What to revise at home in Year 10

2. What did they study in Year 9?
Year 9 GCSE Music bridged the gap between Music at KS3 and Music in KS4.
Develop composing skills.
Build on performance confidence, solo and ensemble.
Develop and introduce more advanced listening skills not covered in KS3.
Music theory and features of the eras of music.

3. Break down of the GCSE Course
By the end of Year 11, students will have completed:
2 compositions (30%)
Both compositions total between 3-6mins.
Free choice composition (Y10).
Fixed composition (Y11).
2 performances (30%)
Totals at least 4 minutes.
One performance MUST be an ensemble (both recorded in Y11).
1 listening exam (40%)
Exam sat at the end of Y11.

4. Topics covered in Year 10 By the end of Year 10, students will have:
Continued to develop performance skills which will be marked using the Eduqas mark scheme.
Continued to develop listening and appraising skills with practice exam questions.
Looked at and analysed the two set works.
Completed one composition (free composition).

5. Topics covered in Year 11 By the end of Year 11, students will have:
Recorded both performances.
Submitted a second composition to a fixed brief (released September of Y11).
Covered all areas of study and revised the set works.
Sat two PPE mock exams (October and February).
Sat the proper exam (June).

6. What can you do to help at home?
This website has a whole library of revision slides, sound clips and tests broken down into the elements, eras and genres of music.
Homeworks will be set, students can work on their compositions at home and revision can be done.

7. What can you do to help at home?
Instrumental lessons:
Get them!
Show the teacher the guidelines for difficulty levels.
Ask their advice.
Ensure your young person has a score or lead sheet for each performance.
Please note:
You do NOT get more marks for performing a Grade 7 or 8 piece.

8. What should students be doing at home?
There are three things students should be doing at home to support their learning in school:
Going over topics covered in class and asking questions if there is any confusion.
Practising performance pieces.
Using MusicFirst to “play around” with composing ideas.
