3. What?
One Book, One County is a shared reading experience designed to encourage reading and discussion among students, families, and community members.

4. Where?
Students are encouraged to read at home with their families. Understanding that this is sometimes impossible, teachers are expected to read each day’s selection to their class or facilitate the reading of each day’s selection in their classroom.

6. Why?
Literacy is essential. Our students are oftentimes bogged down by reading “on their level” or they are limited to reading materials that fail to pique their interest. Shared reading experiences allow for discussion and the ability to delve deeper into the story.

7. How it started
One Book, One County began as One Book, One Town - a reading promotion effort at Noel Elementary, which is a 3-8 building in our district. After doing it there for three years, it was decided to go district-wide last year.

25. Survey comments #2 I loved doing this and really enjoyed the book!
It was a great book. The youngest grandson came home every day ready to answer questions and he made survival kits to snack on. He also made fish hooks. The middle grandson was always ready to answer questions. He said the movie and book did not match up and he liked the book better. They liked the prizes as well. Very good experience for the kids-especially the youngest who really doesn’t want to read.
I’m already on the third book and I love the trilogy so far. I am excited to see what next February has in store for us!
