2 POP Rationale Support the development of valuable transferable skills and experience for PGs whilst working in a company or organisation Contribute to the development of further opportunities for impact Provide a valuable service and additional offer to the business community supporting knowledge transfer and University to business engagement Facilitate more interaction and build long-term relationships between the University and external partners

3 POP Overview Open to postgraduate researchers (Master’s, MPhil and PhD) 3 month full-time placement with a company or organisation (or part-time over a longer period) Placement is supported by a bursary 50% industrial strategy funding 50% from the company or organisation Bursary paid at the Research Council stipend rate (£1,212 per month) Participation in the scheme will be subject to satisfactory research degree progress with approval from the Main Supervisor and School Director of Graduate Studies (Research) Placements will take place from March 2018

4 Two strands to the scheme
Partner-led Companies and organisations are invited to propose projects which would be advertised to postgraduate researchers as these become available. Supervisor/student-led A supervisor and a student could work with a company or organisation to propose a project which would be undertaken by that specific postgraduate researcher. Deadline for applications: 14th February 2018 Panel meets: end of February 2018

Smart, Flexible and Clean Energy Technologies Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Digital Enabling Technology in Health Transformative Digital Technologies Photonics Manufacturing and Materials of the Future Integrated and Sustainable Cities Technologies for the Creative Industries. There is likely to be some flexibility and we would encourage you to approach us to discuss potential project ideas
