2 Hyperbole “Hitting my head against the wall!”
The speaker doesn’t literally bang her head against a wall, this is an exaggeration that demonstrates how much impact the speaker’s lover has on her.

3 Alliteration “Hitting my head”
The “h” sound is repeated to draw the listener’s attention to how crazy the speaker is for her lover.

4 Hyperbole “My heart is fried!”
The speaker’s heart isn’t actually fried, this is an exaggeration that shows how much the speaker cares for her lover.

5 Repetition “What you got boy is hard to find/I think about it all the time/I’m all strung out my heart is fried!/I just can’t get you off my mind… “Because your love your love your love is my drug/Your love your love your love/I said your love your love your love is my drug/Your love your love your love” This is the most important part of the song and is where the song’s title comes from. It is repeated to show the listener its importance and help keep it in the listener’s mind.

The “uh” sound found in the first syllable of each word draws the audience’s attention to how the speaker feels about her lover, she is addicted to him.

“Your love” is repeated to put emphasis on the effect the speaker’s lover has on her. He is her “drug.”

8 Alliteration “But crash and crave you when you leave!”
The repetition of the consonant “c” draws the audience’s attention to how the speaker feels when her lover isn’t around. She breaks down and longs for his presence.

9 Simile “Do I make your heart beat like an 808 drum?”
The speaker is comparing her lover’s heartbeat to the beating of a Roland TR-808 drum, one of the first programmable drum machines, to create a visual for the listener of her lover’s heartbeat.

10 Repetition “Is my love your drug?/ Your drug?/Huh your drug?/Huh your drug?/Is my love your drug?” “Your drug” is asked repeatedly by the speaker to put emphasis on how the speaker hopes her lover feels as strongly towards her as she does to him.

12 Assonance “Maybe I need some rehab/Or maybe just need some sleep”
The long “e” sound in the first syllable of each word draws the audience’s attention to the fact that there is something wrong with the speaker and she thinks she needs rehab or sleep.

13 Metaphor “Your Love is My Drug”
The speaker compares her lover’s love to a drug. This draws the listener’s attention to show how addicted the speaker is to her lover.
