GDP of Mexico
3
Urbanization vs. GDP High GDP commonly correlates with high urbanization. Cities such as Cancun Gives Quintana Roo have a higher GDP. Because Cancun is urbanized, it became a popular tourist destination.
4
Infant Mortality vs. GDP
Infant mortality rate is commonly related with low GDP because Modern medicine is precise but very expensive. Higher GDP means that the population has the money to afford healthcare. Chiapas for example has a very low GDP and the highest infant mortality rate.
5
HDI vs. Urban Population
6
Mexican Elections There are many correlations between urbanization and the recent elections. In the 2012 elections, a majority of the urbanized population voted for the PRI the conservative leader and the other less urbanized states voted for PAN, or other small independents. Many of the coastal states voted for PAN in the 2012 election that are still un-urban.
7
Border States Infant mortality rate in the border states of Mexico for one reason, urban migration. Urban migration has caused people in border states to want to enter America to have kids. This causes the infant mortality rate to decrease because the are no babies being born. GDP per capita in the northern states of Mexico is rather high. The wealthy in Mexico’s border states have no want to migrate. Urban population is noticeably off in the border states. They are all very large but have a very urbanized population. These states would often not have such an urbanized population.
8
Southern States The southern states of Mexico have the highest infant mortality rate because of its low GDP and urbanization. The lower states of Mexico are largely un-urban because of the large mines and natural resources. The GDP in the lower states are so low because of the type of labor. Mining is often poor payment for the workers, but not those owning the mines. Because of the type of work, the south seems to vote more towards presidents that promise to help the unions and miners.
