Do Now… in Composition Notebook
What are FIVE habits or tools you should know how to do and you feel are most important for you to succeed in school (whether that be High School or College). In complete sentences why do you feel that that those FIVE things are most important? Put those FIVE things in order of importance. Number being the most important. Do NOT put Composition away.

AVID Announcements Syllabus due today and learning logs. Must have materials by today. Planners will come in either tomorrow or Wednesday. PSAT Testing: Monday, October 11th FIU & Stetson Sign up in Guidance Teachers who are asking you to have a separate binder besides the AVID binder.

Activity: At your table
On ONE sheet of paper get together and discuss what 5 habits or tools you chose. Make a list of order of importance with all those tools/habits. We will discuss as a class. Put all of your names on the sheet of paper.

What we will work on this year… We will work on the refinement of behavior in various situations. For example, how we behave with friends is different than class behavior, which is different from job interviews. In addition, we will pay a great deal of attention to expanding our vocabulary, as well as its use in our speaking and writing. We will look back on experiences (successes and failures) to make better informed decisions about the future. One key focus for this year is an examination of our career choice.

Why Create Essential Questions?
To make the summarizing process easier. To ensure that you properly understand the purpose of the day’s lesson.

What To Do If There Is No Essential Question
Be proactive: Ask the teacher: “What is the one question that I should be able to answer after today’s lesson?” Be friendly and non-confrontational. Make sure it’s when they are not busy. Convert the day’s Standard into a question.
