Pearl Harbor United States in the way of Japan’s ambitions in South East Asia – Japan needed oil, rubber for war Roosevelt demanded Japan withdraw from Indo-China and stopped selling oil to them Negotiations were for naught

Pearl Harbor 2350 men killed, 5 battleships sunk, 3 battleships put out of action, 200 aircraft destroyed 29 Japanese planes shot down Luckily for America – 3 aircraft carriers not in port that morning
