1 WARm-Up – JOURNal (p. 82) Pick ONE of the following topics and write a well-developed journal entry. Be sure to support your answer. Is it better to be unaware/ignorant of the realities of the world and happy, or completely aware of the truth with the chance that you could be completely miserable with your knowledge of the truth? OR Would it be okay to create a utopia where the lives of almost everyone are made to be mostly painless, comfortable, and easy if it meant that a very small number of people lived in constant agonizing pain or lived in horrible conditions?

2 Congratulations! You have been hired by Penguin Publishing Company to design a book jacket for a new release of one of the following dystopian texts: Anthem, “Harrison Bergeron”/”2081,” or “2BR02B.” Penguin wants the cover to represent the THEMES and MORAL QUESTIONS surrounding the story, rather than just a simple image depicting the plot or the characters. You must also write the book jacket “summary” that will be found on the back cover. This summary must give an overview of the story that attracts readers to want to find out about the story, but does not give away the ending. You want to leave them hanging so that they will read it!

3 HOW-TO Pick your partner. Pick your text.
Collaborate/figure out how to split the work so that you are both putting in EQUAL effort. Fold a sheet of paper in half. On the front, design the cover, including title (font, size, etc.) and image. Be sure to put the author’s name somewhere on it! On the back, put your “catchy” summary that will entice readers to pick up the book. Make it NEAT and COLORFUL and PROFESSIONAL. Be ready to present for a Speaking/Listening grade. NOTE: You can draw, or you can use magazines. We do not have computer access today.

4 PEER Evaluation On the post-it note: What is your name?
What is your partner’s name? On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 is the worst, 5 is the best), how well did your partner contribute to our book jacket in terms of IDEAS? Explain. On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 is the worst, 5 is the best), how well did your partner contribute to our book jacket in terms of WORK? Explain. On a scale of 1 to 5 (1 is the worst, 5 is the best), how well did your partner contribute to our presentation? Explain.
