Bell-Ringer: 3/13 Welcome back!!! You need your Journal!
You have 10 mins. to work on your bacteria resistance lab. DUE Beginning of class TOMORROW.

Bell-Ringer: 3/13 Notebook Set-up: Plant Structures & Adaptations
3
Introduction to Plants
4
Plants-Why are they necessary?
5
Write these on each petal
Kingdom Plantae Eukaryote (membrane bound organelles) Multicellular Mostly Sexual Reproduction; some asexual Autotroph Cell Walls (made of cellulose) Write these on each petal
6
Occurs in the leaves, Autotroph
Photosynthesis Occurs in the leaves, Autotroph 6CO2 + 6H2O + Light 6O2 + C6H12O6 Write this on leaves
7
Vascularization Vascularization / Transport – system of xylem and phloem, much like blood vessels in animals Write this on stem
8
Where do plants live? Write this in roots Terrestrial – live on land
Aquatic – live in water Write this in roots
9
How do we classify plants?
FOUR categories
10
Bryophytes Non-vascular (only category that is non-vascular)
Live in moist environments Low-lying plants; not tall---Why? Examples: mosses, liverwort, hornwort
11
Ferns Vascular Seedless, reproduce using spores
Examples: ferns, horsetails
12
Gymnosperms Vascular “Naked seeds” – unprotected seeds on cones
Many have needle shaped leaves Examples: conifers (pine, cedar, redwood), cycads, ginkgoes
13
Angiosperms Vascular Flowering plants (protected seed)
Flower (male and female reproductive parts) Fruit (fertilized seed inside) Examples: apple tree, lilies, grass
14
What did you learn? Which of the following does NOT describe kingdom plantae? Multicellular Prokaryote Sexual reproduction Cell wall made of cellulose B
15
What did you learn? What type of plant is described as: vascular, flowering, has fruit? Bryophytes Ferns Gymnosperms Angiosperms D
16

Observing Positive & Negative Tropisms in Plants Bean Lab
Objectives: Observe seeds as they germinate and send out roots & shoots. Observe how plants orient themselves to grow with the stems up and the roots down.
