Introduction The first freedom ride was on May 4,1961.
There were seven blacks and six whites that left Washington D.C. on two public busses that was going to the deep South.

The first couple days the riders encountered minor injuries but after the second week they were severely beaten.

The Bus Burned Down! The freedom ride bus got burned down in Birmingham A bunch of whites came and attacked the passengers only two blocks down from the sheriffs office.

Even though slavery was illegal for a while, it was still common that in the 1940’s and 50’s especially in southern states, to have whites-only and blacks-only signs in certain areas.

Freedom Ride Ended The freedom ride ended in Jackson, Mississippi because the people at the bus station wouldn’t sale them any more tickets.
