The B.o.R. (basic rights) Lists rights that ALL citizens (you and me)get All are rights that colonists didn’t get! Wrote them to make sure that future generations will receive these rights “…our POSTerity. (post-game) Protects our civil liberties (freedoms for everyone).

Assembly (Peaceful) Petition (Gain support for an idea) Press Slander - Spoken lies (can’t do) Libel - Printed lies (can’t do) The Zenger Case (1733): Peter Zenger arrested and imprisoned for criticizing NY governor, later acquitted (found not guilty) Speech

4 Amendment 2 (II) How many bare arms do you see? Right to bear arms
“WOW! I SEE 2 BARE ARMS!”

5 Amendment 3 (III) Think: “3” Little PIGS!…You don’t have to let anyone in! No quartering of soldiers

6 Amendment 4 (IV) No illegal searches and seizures Jay-Z
(jay-z has 4 letters) OR 4 (JAY-Z) 4 kind of like a house, can’t search house without a warrant

9 Amendment 6 (V+I)= VI 666 Think bad people Even “bad" people get:
Right to a trial by jury (criminal cases only) Right to a lawyer Right to a speedy trial (“Speedy Six” Right to confront witnesses

10 Amendment 7 (VII) SEVEN = CIVIL
Not criminal cases but civil (non criminal) Right to a trial in a civil case only if more than $20! Oh thank heaven for 7!

11 Amendment 8 (VIII) Number 8 looks like a paddle
No cruel and unusual punishments! No excessive bails and fines Guess what looks like an 8 too: $$$$$$$

12 Amendment 9 (10 is X so…1 - X) IX
In case we forgot any… 9 rhymes with “mine” Rights given to the people…us!

13 Rights reserved for the states.

15 Amendment 12 (XII) 1 2 Voting for the #1 man and the #2 man!

Being a slave was not good  Think slavery! Abolished it! 

17 Amendment 14 (XIV) 1 (one) 4 (four) ALL!
We are all equal under the law! **HUGE!!!! Anytime one is not being treated equally…. Cite the 14th! Connect to 5th too! (open your hand!)

18 Amendment 15 (XV) African American suffrage Guess what?
African American has 15 letters! 13, 14 and 15 go together!

19 We all are “sick-teen” of paying taxes!
Amendment 16 ( XVI) Do you like taxes? We all are “sick-teen” of paying taxes!

20 Amendment 17 (XVII) Now we get to elect senators! “Senate-teen”

21 Amendment 18 (XVIII) What can’t you do at 18? Drink…
Prohibition (can’t do) **only one that was repealed by another! Repealed- you “peel” a banana and then throw it away...you CANCEL it!

22 Nineteen! Amendment 19 (XIX)
1919 by the 19th Amendment, women got the right to vote! (Women’s suffrage)

23 Amendment 20 (XX) Terms of president, vp and congress
President gets inaugurated on Jan. 20!

24 Amendment 21 (XXI) Prohibition is repealed!
What can you do at 21 years of age? Exactly… Prohibition is repealed!

25 Amendment 22 (XXII) Pres only gets two two! Two terms!

26 Amendment 23 (XXIII) People in DC love 23! Or, MJ’s number

28 Amendment 25 (XXV) What if the pres dies or leaves office?

30 “Congress would be in heaven if it wasn’t for 27!”
Amendment 27 (XXVII) Rhyme it: “Congress would be in heaven if it wasn’t for 27!” No pay increases until next group of Representatives
