P-n junction diode Presentation on by: GOSAI VIJAY-(D1) PRAJAPATI KISHORKUMAR-( ) SENVA RAJUBHAI-( )
2
What is a p-n junction diode
What is a p-n junction diode? A semiconductor device with two terminals, typically allowing the flow of current in one direction only. (symbole of pn junction diode) (pn junctin diode)
3
Biasing of p-n junction diode
Three type of biasing Unbiased diode . Forward biasing . reverse biased.
4
The Unbiased Diode What is un biased diode :- when we do not apply any source of energy or electricity than a diode is said to be unbiased diode.
5
Forward biased p-region(anode) is connected to positive terminal of external dc source. n-region(cathode) is connected to negative terminal of the external dc source.
6
Operation of a forwared biased diode
7
Reverse biased Connect p-region(anode) is connected to negative terminal of external dc source. Connect n-region(cathode) is connected to positive terminal of the external dc source.
8
Operation of a reverse biased diode
9
V-I characteristics p-n diode
10
Breakdown The breakdown in reverse biased diode can take place due to following effects. Breakdown Avalanche effect Zener effect
11
Application Can be used as rectifier in DC Power Supplies.
In Demodulation or Detector Circuits. In clamping networks In clipping circuits used for waveform generation. As switches in digital logic circuits.
