One of the young people interviewed said that, ‘Teachers should ask me questions about how I feel about having a stammer.’ This suggests that an approach to the inclusion of young people who stammer should involve an understanding of ‘youth voice’. According to Rudduck and Flutter (2000), ‘the right of young people to talk about their experiences and be heard …was seen as a basis for protection’ (75) when international law on children’s rights was being developed in the 1980s. It has been useful to bear this in mind during the planning of the methodology for this case study.
