2. First steps first: As you take notes
Start by writing down the name of your source.

E.g. Author, Title, Date, Magazine, Publisher, Encyclopedia, Date of Publication, Where it was Published, URL

3. Why site sources What is plagiarism?
Plagiarism: To take or use improperly or illegally the works or ideas of another
You MUST document all sources to avoid plagiarism

4. Bibliography Formatting
MLA and APA format are most popular
We use MLA
Books, encyclopedias, websites, Magazines are examples of sources to be cited
The most important things to note in a bibliography are:
Author—if found, Title, Publisher, Date, URL/Web Address—if needed

5. Book
Author’s last name, Author’s first name. Title of Book. Place of publication: publisher, date of publication.
Example: Be aware that all punctuations are important!
Schwartz, Linda. Research & Research Activities to Encourage Encyclopedia Use Grades Santa Barbara, CA: The Learning Works, INC., 1984.

6. Article in an Encyclopedia/Magazine
Last Name, First Name. “Name of the article,” Name of Encyclopedia/Magazine. place of publication: publisher, date of publication.
Example: Be aware that all punctuations are important! If there is no author, then start with the name of the article.
Stimpson, Jennifer. “Install Wall Frames.” This Old House. New York: This Old House, Inc., Jan/Feb

7. Website
Last Name, First Name. Name of Website. (Month Day, Year). “Name of Article in Quotations.” Retrieved: Month Day, Year. Web Address/URL
Example: Be aware that all punctuations are important!
Roach, John. National Geography. ( ). “Valentine’s Day Facts: Gifts, History, and Love Science.” Retrieved: Feb. 12,

8. Interview
Last name, First name. Personal INTERVIEW. Date of the interview.
If the interview is done by phone replace personal with phone
Example:
Smith, John. Personal INTERVIEW. April 17, 2006

9. Encyclopedia Britannica Online
Username: oneidawi
Password: thunderhawks
This website provides you with an already made citation! Just copy and paste!

10. Pictures & Sound Pictures, Sound, and Clipart must be sited
Follow directions for citing source where pic/sound is located (ex. Book or Website)
Pictures from a photographer must include:
Name of photographer, Date taken
Avoid images searches, unreliable to cite
