2 Podcasting! What is it? Podcasting is a technology that enables users to locate audio files & deliver them to a host ipod or MP3. Podcasts are usually in the form of, but not limited to, radio programs. For example Radio programs such as The Matt and Jo Show and Hamish and Andy on Fox FM have daily podcasts available for avid listeners to upload to their MP3 players.

3 Beginnings and its future
The first podcasting program was created by Adam Curry. Curry’s program is called iPodder and is designed to be used with iTunes, the apple program that runs iPod MP3 player. There is much dispute about who had the first podcast but today it is rapidly expanding, if one was to search for podcast on the internet, a search engine like Google would come up with over 295 million entries for that word. This is a great leap from records kept by Doc Searls to track the growth of podcasting: his records show that on 28th September 2005, Google had just 24 hits.

4 Educational uses… students could create their own podcasts to learn about media and radio. students have access to educational podcasts from stations like ABC etc, and also to educational tools such as national anthems and historical speeches. teachers can create their own podcasts to enhance learning – this could be especially useful for TESOL. Sight Impaired students could be able to access certain podcasts that would allow them to learn as ably as Sighted students – as podcasts are actual human voices, this may be a more effective way of teaching students with Sight Impairments, as opposed to the older use of computerized voices.
