A Cowboy’s Life By: Kevin, Kimberly, Marlliam , and Victoria

The cowboy Cowboys weren't just whites. About a fifth of all cowboys were African Americans or Mexicans. There was also Native American cowboys. They had trail names that were like “Busted Snoot Johnny” or “Teddy Blue.” The cowboy was a unifying national hero, because they were judged by there job .

On The Job What they would do is they would spread out tens of thousands of miles. Then while the cattle would move along the trail two experienced cowboys rode in front of the herd to guide them along the route. Other cowboys would ride beside the herd to keep the cattle together. Along with that there would be men in the back to push them along as well. They’d work 18 hours a day on a saddle and still have to be on constant alert because anything could happen. They would probably get paid about 25 to 60$ a month, that was good wage.

This is a picture of an ordinary cowboy.

The Hardships Many people think that being a cowboy has man freedoms, but the job was mostly bone tiring. It was tense and boring. The men would wake up at 3 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. There was always that fear of a stampede. They survived on physical endurance , a little need for sleep , and a sense of humor. That was all they had to survive on.
