2 1 While the city is historically known for its steel industry, today it is largely based on healthcare, education, technology, robotics, and financial services. The city has made great strides in redeveloping abandoned industrial sites with new housing, shopping and offices.

4 2 This city is considered a part of the Greater Pittsburg Metropolitan area. It was originally a settlement in the British Colony of Virginia and later an important city in the Commonwealth of Virginia until 1861 when the western counties of Virginia seceded from the state.
