Aims of the Residential
to provide memorable and challenging opportunities for your children to develop independence, self confidence and responsibility To explore different environments (coastal, lake, river, woodland) to have fun! Personal friendships memorable event in their education

Staffing Mr Parker, Mr Stewart, Mrs Cole and Miss Farress.
We hope that two parents will join us for the Monday night, when Y3s stay overnight. Female and male supervision

The Journey We won’t need a minibus while we are there (the centre has four) so we’ll ask for parent volunteers to help the staff to transport children there and back in private cars.

Health and Safety The safety and well being of your children will be our priority at all times

Start Bay Centre Sample menu ~ lasagna/pasta bolognaise + cookies and ice-cream ~ roast dinner ( turkey ) + sticky toffee pudding ~ pizza, corn on cob and chips (eating outside using pizza oven weather permitting ) + profiteroles ~ cottage pie or chicken pie and vegetables x3 + banana split/ banana cake and custard vegetarian option available every meal

Dormitories and bedrooms
We believe at Start Bay that all our guests should feel welcome and at home, whether you are experiencing your first trip or not. Our staff pride themselves on creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere within the centre to make you feel at home. Each group has exclusive use of the converted old school, accommodating 8 dormitory rooms ranging from 3 to 8 bedded dorms, three are en-suite. We have four rooms located on the ground floor for easy access. We pride ourselves in providing cosy, comfortable and clean bedrooms for all visitors.

Y3 children Y3 children will join us for the Monday night, spending two days and one night at Slapton. We hope that parents will drive them down for us.

Low ropes Swing, crawl and balance your way around our brand new ropes course. A range of physical challenges for pupils to overcome where teamwork, communication and understanding are essentials. Helmets and full safety briefing provided.

Rockpooling Rock pool ramble at Lannacombe beach
Rockpooling Rock pool ramble at Lannacombe beach. Discover the perils of life on the rocky shore and how our amazing rocky shore creatures have adapted to overcome these.

Beach Bouldering Discover low level rock climbing moves at Mattiscombe, with plenty of fun and some physical challenges to overcome along the way. Helmets and full safety briefing provided.

EVENING NATURE WALK Children will explore the woodland in the twilight using all their senses at this inspiring time of day and take part in fun and engaging activities underneath big open skies. Pupils will search for evidence of local wildlife and play wildlife themed games such as ‘Bat & Moth’.

NATURAL INSPIRATIONS Using natural materials and inspiration from the surroundings and the days experiences, create an artwork to take home.

COASTAL GEO-JOURNEY Children will explore the coastal landscapes, the processes that have shaped them and settlements including the lost village of Hallsands. Along their journey children will make personal observations, constructing and answering geographical questions about the landscape to deepen their curiosity and understanding of the environment.

Seashore Adventure Imagine being shipwrecked on a faraway island and use your most imaginative skills to survive. Create your own treasure island, make maps, use basic compass skills, bury and locate treasure, learn to light a fire without matches and create shelters using minimal materials.

Proposed payment schedule
Cost Proposed payment schedule £30 initial deposit – by 7th December £70 second instalment – by 10th February £70 third instalment – by 10th March 80 provisional balance – by 26th April (£250 provisional total cost - will be £25 per child more if we need to hire a coach)

Provisional Slapton Kit List (NB to be confirmed nearer the time)
1. Small rucksack containing .... Lunch box (and lunch!) Unbreakable, resealable drinks container (containing a drink!) (Optional – camera. Children will be responsible for their own cameras, so we suggest old or disposable ones.) Coat (waterproof)

2. Large holdall / big rucksack
containing all other items (not suitcases please) Personal washbag (hairbrush, toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo etc) Sun cream Towel Pyjamas (or alternative nightwear) Dressing Gown Cuddly toy (only one each please) Slippers or indoor shoes

T shirts – named -at least 4 (no strappy / vest tops please, in case of sunny weather)
Trousers – named - at least 3 pairs - preferably track suit bottoms (jeans take ages to dry out should they get wet). Long shorts would be an acceptable alternative. Warm tops (eg fleeces, jumpers, sweatshirts) – named - at least 2 Underwear – named - a change for every day! Socks – at least 5 pairs Old, scuffable trainers Sun hat Swimming Costume

Small pencil case (including pencil, rubber, ruler, colouring pencils)
Quiet indoor activities (eg top trump cards, book, colouring book etc) Torch - with batteries! (named if possible) (Optional – suitable sweets to share during the week eg individually wrapped) Carrier bag / bin liner for dirty clothes Small prop for Talent Night (eg wig? CD? magic trick?)

Medicines Please see Mrs Cole about medication. Prescription drugs can be administered during the week, provided that the relevant permission forms have been filled in. All medicines need to be handed to Mrs Cole on Monday 11th June in a clearly labelled bag.
