2 Introduction Task In the fictional short story “Zebra,” by Chaim Potok , we are introduced to a Vietnam War Veteran, John Wilson, who depicts and talks about the effects that the war had on the American Soldiers who fought in it. The purpose of this assignment is to give you background information about the country, the war, and the effects on the lives of those who were involved. It is also intended that through this this you will gain insight into the thoughts and feelings of the character John Wilson by reading accounts of the war from real life veterans of Vietnam. 3 Task In order to display an understanding of the information that you discover in this assignment, you will have to bring back “artifacts” from your research that symbolize different aspects of the Vietnam War. When you have your list of “artifacts” and reasons for each, you need to use Google Images to find a picture of each artifact. Have fun, be curious, and search for answers! 4 Symbolizing the Vietnam War
While you learn about the Vietnam War through this assignment, please think of “artifacts” that you could bring back from your research that might be symbolic of the following aspects of the war. Please write down or describe the object that you chose and then find a picture of that item using Google Images. This will create a collection of images that you feel symbolize the Vietnam War. All typing that you do to respond to questions or challenges need to be typed using RED font.

10 Vietnam War Rubric Each artifact will be worth 7 points 3 points for choosing an object that is a symbol for an aspect of the Vietnam War. 1 point for locating and posting the picture. 3 points for explaining why you chose this object as a symbol for an aspect of the Vietnam War. Remember that the point of this project is not simply just to finish. It is to think about what you have learned about the Vietnam War. In order to show this, you need to choose artifacts that show to understand each aspect of the war that is specified on the worksheet. Don’t just tell me that you would choose a toy soldier as a symbol for a soldier in the war. A symbol is supposed to represent an idea or feeling. So, if you think soldiers in the war felt proud to serve their country, maybe you could choose an American Flag to show this.
