1 BUSINESS SYSTEM OPTION (Bso)AND TECHNICAL SYSTEM OPTION(TSO)

2 The SA&D Phase consists of five stages :- Stages
1 Investigation of Current Environment 2 Business System Options 3 Definition of Requirements 4 Technical System Options 5 Logical Design

3 Business System Options (BSOs)
To assist the management to make a sound choice A number of business system options are prepared and presented to them Each describing the scope and functionalities provided by a particular development / implementation approach.

4 The steps of this stage are : (a) Define BSOs
Identifying a number of possible system solutions that meet the defined requirements from which the users can select (b) Select BSO Presentation of the BSOs to users and the selection of the preferred option. The selected option defines the boundary of the system to be developed in the subsequent stages.

5 Example: Inventory System
Define Business System Options Establish minimum requirements - list the functional requirements for the new system - Eg: ID Description 1 Produce stock report 2 Record purchase order 3 Confirmation of purchase order 4 Record delivery details 5 Report on stock transaction(in /out) 6 Record supplier invoice 7 Record customer order

6 Example: Inventory System
Develop skeleton BSOs ID Requirement BSO1 BSO2 1 Produce stock report X 2 Record purchase order 3 Confirmation of purchase order 4 Record delivery details 5 Report on stock transaction(in /out) 6 Provide possible stock out warning 7 Record supplier invoice 8 Record customer order 9 Use of PCs in stock office 10 Use sales and marketing data

7 Example: Inventory System
Selected BSO Mention which option chosen Justify why that option selected. Relate with Budget provided by the company Time constraint Suitability with the environment of the company: total no of staff, technical part (not enough man power to maintain the system, don’t have high power PC to support the system etc) Will look forward in next phase

8 Example of BSO

9 Technical System Options (TSOs)
A TSO defines a possible technical environment for the implementation of the system. It will include description of hardware and software , technical support arrangements Outline TSO should include consideration of: - hardware platforms - software eg: 3GL,4GL - technical support arrangement eg: in house, software house, contract staff

10 The steps of this stage are :
(a) Define TSOs Its purpose is to identify and define the possible approaches to the physical implementation to meet the function definitions. It also validates the service level requirements for the proposed system in the light of the technical environment. (b) Select TSO This step is concerned with the presentation of the TSOs to users and the selection of the preferred option.

11 Example : Supplier/Product Systems
DEFINE TSO Option 1 : The current stand-alone PCs will be networked. Additional PC will be available for each office and will all be attached to local printers. New software will be written in-house using 3GL and database software used for the development of the system. In house technical support provided Option 2: single wider network PCs managed centrally by in house computing division. Application software will be developed same tools as option 1, but network software will probably be supplied by specialist outside organization. Once the network is in place, technical support will be provided by the in house computing division

12 Option 3 : web based application/online system will be develop which have a wider access of users. Software house will be assigned to develop the system by using 4 GL software. Once the system implemented, the technical support will be provided by software house.

13 SELECTED TSO Selection should emphasize relative advantages and disadvantages. Eg: Option 1 Advantages: Save cost Low risk-security threats Disadvantages Didn’t support multiple users Restricted of storage capacity

14 Option 2 Option 3 Advantages Disadvantages
Selection of the best TSO for system is…….
