1. Education and Training Requirements
To be a social worker, you need to have a BSc Honours Degree in Social Work 300 tariff points needed to get into a social work degree. These can be achieved by GCSE, Leaving Certificate, A Levels and Diploma’s. GCSE Mathematics and English are required at grade C or above.

Other Requirements Other vital requirements include:
Being registered with NISCC Access NI check (Vetting) A full driving licence Being able to work flexible hours

Other experiences useful for social work.
Voluntary work is also beneficial throughout e.g. working with children, people with disabilities and people who suffer from mental illnesses. Having experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and other inter-agencies.

2. Practical Skills, Knowledge and Understanding Requirements
Good communication and listening skills Good at problem solving and work as a collaboration. Need to be empathic and deliver a high standard of care to all patients. A good social worker has to be non-judgemental and open minded. Reliable and trustworthy is very important as they are working with vulnerable people. Good patients is important also. Understand and follow legislation, policies and procedures. Manage and negotiate situations in a calm and supportive way. Know the social needs and services available.
