Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

2 Testing vs. Temptation Fact: the English words testing and tempting come from the same Greek word peiradzo. The best place to see the distinction is in James chapter one where both are used in their different meanings.

What is the test/temptation? A prophet, who can even do wondrous signs, tells people to follow other Gods. Don’t follow him. What warning do we receive in 2 Peter 2:1-3? There will be false teachers to avoid.

What does Jesus tell Peter? Satan has asked to sift you like wheat. How does Peter respond? Bravado, Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death.

Does this mean nothing bad will ever happen to a Christian? NO. But even in the midst of trouble we can be certain that we have not lost the love of God or the hope of eternal life

27 Blessed End What is a blessed end? It is not necessarily a quick or easy death, but that we die believing in Jesus Christ as our Savior and trusting in the promises of God.
