In Sinc As a team, decide what chant or movement you will share.
When you hear “In Sinc” you will automatically get up and perform your activity. When you hear “Out of Sinc” you stop and resume the session. (Teach this activity to teachers so they can use it with their students.)

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)

Interesting Facts: Problem Behavior=Academic and Social Behavior Deficits. Academic failure = Antisocial Behavior Academic and Behavior Problems occur together. Research indicates that one of the best violence prevention strategies is to learn to read. 27% of students with learning disabilities drop out. 50% of emotionally disturbed students drop out. 70% of drop outs due to academic and social failures get arrested within the first 3 years of leaving school.
5
“Prevention is better than a cure.”
TIER I: Prevention “Prevention is better than a cure.” 1. What does this mean literally? 2. What does it mean figuratively? 3. Apply it to your students and staff.
8
Engage Discuss the “6 Indicators of a Well-Managed Classroom” with your administrative team. 2. Select 1 and apply it to your campus. (Do all your teachers have it in place? Can you think of some that do? Can you think of some that don’t? How would this help some of your teachers?) 3. How can you teach, implement and monitor the indicator for all your teachers to increase student performance?
9
Campus Survey Read the survey questions and discuss with your administrative team. Rate your campus. What are some areas that are working at your school? What are some areas that need to be addressed? 5. Use these results for planning.
10
Creating a Healthy School Culture
As a leader, reflect on what you do for teachers to want to be at your school, for students to want to go to school and for parents to want to keep their kids in your school? Tier I includes strategies to address these areas. What can you do differently this year?
11
Multi-Tiered System Tier I 80%. Get it the 1st or 2nd time (Teachers)
Tier II % Don’t respond to Tier I and need a little more help (Teachers & Counselors) Tier III % Have more problems and need intensive interventions and supports (Teachers & Counselors & Social Workers & Substance Abuse Counselors)
12
Engage Think of students in each of the tiers. What are you doing to assist students get back on track? Think of Teachers in each of the tiers. What are you doing to assist teachers get back on track?
13
Out of School Suspensions and Discretionary DAEP Placements
Before you consider these 2 discipline techniques, we all need to consider: Have behavior expectations been taught and retaught? Has “Taking Charge” form been utilized? (Inc. GPAR) 3. Is Student on RTI Behavior with effective BIP in place? 4. Is Counselor/Social Worker working with student? 5. Has an academic need been ruled out? 6. Does a student/teacher/administrator conflict exist?
14
Card Activity Make a large circle.
You will receive a poker card. Do not look at it. Wait for instructions. Place card on your forehead without looking at it. Walk around and greet/talk to everyone. (Except those with a joker card, IGNORE THEM!)
15
Reflection How did this activity make you feel?
2. What are the implications for our students who feel left out and disconnected? 3. What are the implications for staff who feel left out and disconnected? 4. Identify students and staff. What will you do to help them feel connected.
16
First Impressions
17
Do we have these students walking around our schools?
Do we sometimes make judgements? How could we take a disconnected student’s gifts and talents and use them to connect him/her. Think about this as you go through your sessions.
18
Training Sessions After every session, you will have time to reflect on your learning. 2. Answer the corresponding questions with your administrative team and discuss how you will implement what you have learned.
19
Shout Outs All day we have been watching administrator behavior as learners. And here is what we saw!
20
Putting It All Together!
In each of your sessions, you learned a different section of PBIS. You answered questions relating to your campus. Take that information so you can create your own discipline plan. 4. How will you train, implement and monitor PBIS to help increase student performance.

More Shout Outs!
