Rewards Class Rewards: Cotton Ball Jar
Group Rewards: Table Reward for the most behaved and productive table of the day. (1 monkey buck for each member of the group) Individual Rewards: Monkey bucks can be received as student is observed by the teacher going above and beyond expectations. These can be cashed in for a various of rewards designed by the class at the beginning of the year.

Social Studies Text Used: Florida Social Studies: McGraw Hill
The student will know: How European explorers and American Indian groups interacted/percived with each other. How daily life in the colonies varied based upon the cultural background of the inhabitants. How and why the political and economic structure among the colonies varied. Why the colonies wanted freedom from Britain and how they obtained their freedom. How our government formed and changes made throughout the years Westward Expansion Text Used: Florida Social Studies: McGraw Hill

Reading Reading is broken down into 3 strands: fiction, nonfiction, and foundational skills, which include phonics, morphology( roots and affixes) and fluency. Students will have regular practice with complex texts in a variety of genres including novel studies through out the year Students will work with finding evidence to support answers Reading, writing, and speaking will all be grounded in evidence from texts, both literary and informational

Literacy Teaching Practices
Read a Loud: teacher reads to the whole class, modeling fluency comprehension, and critically thinking strategies Shared Reading: the teacher leads the class in reading allows for practicing the reading process Guided Reading: teacher guides small groups of students based on their needs Paired Reading: students read with a friend/students read with someone with a higher of lower level than they. Independent Reading: students read to learn, for enjoyment, to build stamina

Writing There will be opportunities for writing across the curriculum (Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies) Students will learn how to plan and organize for writing all types of essays (Opinion, Informative and Narrative) Will be able to produce their views in writing by using support from readings

Testing Students have just completed the a baseline Journeys test.
Students are in the process of having Reading Running Records completed Students will be completing the iReady test to prepare for online practice and tutorials. Palm Beach Writes written response exam (sometime in Sept) Students will be administered Unit test approximately every other Friday, based on the benchmarks, spelling and vocabulary taught during that period.

Testing - State End of Year Tests include: Science (paper and pencil), Math (computer based) Writing (paper and pencil) and Reading. (computer based)These assessments measure proficiency and growth .

What is the ib Program? The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12. It prepares students for the intellectual challenges of further education and their future careers, focusing on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside. The curriculum is centered through the IB PYP 5 Essential Elements.

What you will see in your students classroom:
Central Ideas – a “Big Idea” for a 6 week unit of study aligned through Science and Social Studies Lines of Inquiry – objectives aligned through Science and Social Studies to guide inquiry through the 6 week unit Learner Profile – attributes valued by the IB of students that “can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national and global communities”. Inquirers, thinkers, communicators, knowledgeable, risk takers, principled, caring, open-minded, balanced, and reflective. Action Inquiry based lessons
