What is Influenza? It is a viral infection of the lungs
It occurs most often in late fall and winter

History of Influenza First wave -1918-1919
25%-40% of world’s population became ill and 5 million people died Was know as the Influenza Pandemic of 1918 2nd Wave In 1957, the virus spread to the US and many people under 65 got ill Vaccine was produced in May 1957 and was able to be given in August

History of Influenza 3rd Wave- 1968-1969
A new flu virus was detected in Hong Kong The illness began to spread in December 1968 4th Wave A new virus spread the US in 2009 In April 2009, it was identified as the swine flu 74 countries were affected

How does Influenza Spread?
Through the air by coughing and sneezing Direct person to person contact Can pass before feeling sick And after feeling better

Who is the most susceptible to Influenza?
Pregnant women Young children (under 6 months) The Elderly (above 65 years) People with weak immune systems People with health problems

Treatment of Disease Home Treatment
Extra fluids, One glass of water or Juice every hour, Tylenol Doctor Treatment You can get an anti-flu medication, Relenza, Tamiflu, or Antiviral Drugs
