4. What is instant Feedback?
This is about letting students know how he or she is doing in Realtime. This can be done with educational technology.

5. Why does Technology Work?
Students generally like instant feedback.
If you correct mistakes right away this will create more opportunities for positive reinforcing.
The more positive reinforcement a student gets, the more likely they are to be happy, successful and productive.
The goal is to take away the negative aspect of failure and add the positive effects of success.
The negative feedback is impersonal, or you might say privately.

7. Let’s compare immediate feedback to the traditional teaching model
You test students once every two weeks. Then your students get their tests back several days later.
We check to see if they did their homework
Students raise hands only if they think they know the answer.
Students self-check their answers.
If a student did not do well on a subject, we move on to something else.

We don’t spend enough time talking about the emotional struggles of students with disabilities unless they are struggling academically or failing.
We are told to motivate students but never told how to do that.
To motive students, you have to create work that is geared towards the student’s interests.
People learn much faster through success than they do by failure.

13. Assistive Technology
With assistive technology we often think about a task that a student has to do and a tool to help them functionally complete the task.
We should also think about how to motivate students and reinforce positive outcomes.

Imagine if you had to go to work and everyone could do a better job than you? How would you feel?
Think of the days when you are successful at work. How do you feel?

If you are making a mistake, then you correct it right away
Teachers get real-time data about how students are doing
Students can change their behavior to improve performance
Teachers can change their teaching, in real time to improve teaching
Immediate consequences are much more effective in regards to changing behavior than delayed consequences.
If the feedback is negative, the student can use this to avoid consequences in the future.
Instant feedback can cause immediate emotional responses in students
If students are not self-aware of how much they know, then it can be corrected.

What I suggest is give students instant feedback, and you get many of the benefits without trying to turn your curriculum into a game.

There is a ton of research that says instant feedback and consequences are way more effective than delayed consequences.
If you have never read any research, you could figure this out by using student response system and seeing students reactions.

The fastest way is with technology.
Correcting papers and returning them is not instant feedback.

Many people have had bad experiences with technology
Many people think it is not worth the time

I do not want people to think that using technology means not having teacher interaction. You can increase feedback with technology. People still need human interaction to answer questions and gain information. It is best to use the computer as a tool not a replacement for a teacher.
