CFAS Committees and Working Groups
Most are open to all CFAS representatives Committees are focused on the infrastructure and operation of CFAS Working groups are focused on the content and projects CFAS takes on CFAS also convenes an interdisciplinary "Work Group to Define Faculty,” chaired by Immediate Past Chair Rosemarie Fisher, MD Full list of committees and working groups available at

CFAS structure is still relatively new (formed in 2013), and committees and working groups have made progress this year: Diversity Committee, our newest committee, launched and populated; developing long-range agenda and overarching priorities Faculty Resilience Working Group participating in this meeting with sessions; “Well-Being in Academic Medicine” website continues to grow Advocacy Committee now chaired by Joseph Hill, MD, PhD; curates advocacy resources for faculty on “CFAS Advocacy” webpage

Evaluation Committee developing new metrics to advance CFAS’ effectiveness – demographics survey to all CFAS reps soon Basic Science Working Group now chaired by Rich Eckert, PhD communicating the message and value of science Communications Committee curating resources to onboard new reps; providing periodic updates about events and accomplishments AAMC’s Working Group on Definition of Faculty, led by Rosemarie Fisher, MD; developing opinion paper for publication

Mission Alignment Working Group, chaired by Stewart Babbott, MD; engaged in institutional matters as they affect faculty Value of Faculty as Educators Working Group, chaired by Lisa Bellini, MD; produced a summary document and informed the definition of faculty group Nominating & Engagement Committee, reviewing applications for new organizational membership and recommending the leadership slate Program Committee, chaired by CFAS Chair-Elect, Gabriela Popescu, PhD and CFAS Chair-Elect (for a few days) Scott Gitlin, MD

84 CFAS representatives with PhD or MD-PhD degrees New member societies since 2016: The Academy for Professionalism in Health Care (APHC) The Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP)

AAMC Sign-On Letters Through CFAS, this year AAMC has distributed four advocacy sign-on letters to academic societies. We are seen as an important resource in these efforts. 59 societies added their names to the letters on: NIH funding NIH F&A costs DACA students Fetal tissue research

CFAS leaders and reps have presence on other important bodies: ACGME Board of Directors "Action Collaborative" on wellbeing in the clinician environment (sponsored by the ACGME, NAM, and the AAMC) ACOG implementation team

16-Member Administrative Board Convenes several times in person throughout the year and via conference call to shepherd CFAS direction Chair and Chair-elect serve terms on the AAMC Board of Directors Represents cross section of all CFAS reps (clinicians, scientists, medical educators, society reps, school reps, junior and senior reps) Three-year cycle of annual rotation replaces 1/3 of the members each year to add new voices and provide new opportunities Immediate Past Chair responsible for the Nominating Committee Incoming Chair-Elect responsible for the Program Committee
