3. What Is Grace?
Thayer defines graces as “good-will, loving-kindness, favor kindness which bestows upon one what he has not deserved”
We sometimes say that grace is “unmerited favor”
Grace is what we desperately need, but do not deserve and could never earn (Eph. 2:8b)

4. Why Is Grace Necessary?
Grace is necessary because of man’s sin (Isa. 59:1-2; 64:6; Rom. 3:10, 23; 5:12)
Man needs to be free from the guilt of sin in order to be reconciled to God
Because of sin, should receive punishment (Rom. 6:23)
Man cannot relieve himself of this problem, only make it worse (Prov. 14:12)

6. Grace Is Provided… …out of love for man (Jn. 3:16; Rom. 5:8-10)

8. Grace is not a “fail-safe” for forgiveness
A “fail-safe” is that which is “capable of compensating automatically and safely for a failure” (American Heritage Dictionary)
Some have in mind that they can live anyway they so desire (either ignorantly or willfully) and God will save them by His grace.
We cannot sin that grace may abound (Rom. 6:1-2)
