1 Workshop on optimal procurement of affordable and quality-assured life-saving commodities for maternal health Kampala, Uganda September 2015 Presentation from Tanzania Team for question no. 2

2 Presentation outline Forecasting methods
Procured life saving commodities in the country Stakeholders involved in the Quantification Process Challenges Way forward to overcome said challenges

3 Forecasting methods Consumption-estimates of the quantity of each product that will be used during the forecast period based on past use Demographic –information on populations, such as the number of women of reproductive age, under five Morbidity –Estimates of the number of people expected to receive Rx/Services during the forecast period based on STGs and Scale up methods Services –Estimates the number of commodities associated with specific services to be delivered during the forecast period based on service data from HMIS or other similar sources

4 List of 13 life saving medicines procured in the last three years
Oxytocin injection Misoprostol tabs Magnesium Sulphate injection Contraceptives implants (Jadelle, and Implanon) Emergency Contraceptives (0.75mg) Female condoms Co-packed Zinc/ORS Amoxicillin DT (250mg) Injectable antibiotics (Gentamycin 40mg/ml, gentamycin 10mg/ml, ampicillin injection 500mg; Ceftriaxone injection250mg and 1gm ) Antenatal Corticosteroids( Dexamethasone Injection) Paediatric Resuscitation equipments

5 Stakeholders involved in the Quantification Process
RCHs –staff Logistic unit from MoHSW-PSS Technical staff-MSD Technical experts on issues of supply chain-JSI Donors(UNFPA,UNICEF,USAID,WHO) Implementing partners(CHAI,EH,MST,JHPIEGO,PATHFINDER)

6 Data Challenges During Quantification
Inaccurate and incomplete of logistics data, Use of MSD issues vs consumption data Un-updated demographic data unreliable service data Consumption data for Hospitals not captured(only captured in lower health facilities dispensary and HC)

7 Way forward for Quantification challenges
Introduction of Epicor 9 system in the MSD Establishment of electronic logistic management sytem (Elmis) and Logistics Management Unit at the MoHSW and MSD, Use of DHIS2,ILSGate Way and interface of these systems MoHSW has started Roll out eLMIS to Hospital system so that also consumption data can be captured

8 Thank you!
