3 Where everyone is treated equally
Democracy  Where everyone is treated equally and has equal rights e.g. to make decisions (PSED) e.g. children have opportunities to develop their self-confidence and self-awareness, to make choices and decisions, take turns, share, collaborate and negotiate

4 This is about understanding that rules matter
Rule of law This is about understanding that rules matter (PSED) e.g. children learn to manage their own feelings and behaviour, learn right from wrong, learn to behave within agreed and clearly defined boundaries and deal with the consequences

5 Individual liberty Freedom for all – a focus on children's self-confidence and self-awareness and on people and communities (PSED/UW) e.g. we help children to develop a positive sense of themselves, to develop their self-knowledge, self-esteem and increase their confidence in their own abilities e.g. we give children the time and space to explore the language of feelings and responsibility, reflect on their differences and understand that we are all free to have different opinions

6 Mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs
Where we learn to treat others as we want to be treated, how to be part of a community, manage our feelings and behaviour and form relationships with others (PSED/UW) e.g. ethos of inclusivity and tolerance in our settings, where views, faiths, cultures and races are valued and where we encourage children to appreciate and respect their own and other cultures and engage with their wider community  e.g. we help children explore similarities and differences between themselves and others, among families, faiths, communities, cultures and traditions and to share and discuss practices, celebrations and experiences
