2 What Is “Age-Friendly”?
It’s about helping communities become great places for all ages. But there is a focus on aging. It’s about making it possible for people to live easily and comfortably in their homes and communities as they age.

Pittsburgh’s terrain might be a particular challenge for age-friendly living. We no longer fit into our neighborhood. We’re the “old” people. Taking my dad’s license is the worst thing I did. I try to keep healthy. The healthier we are the more productive we’ll be. We have a two-story house, but we live on the first floor only. Living in the suburbs brings proximity challenges when trying to meet up with others. Transportation will be the toughest thing for quality of life as a get older. I have to find a bus or Uber, or a self-driving car.

9 Project Examples Make It Work Universal Co-Op Housing

10 Challenges Getting the right people in the room (diversity, change agents) Establishing ownership. Seeing this as urban acupuncture. Aligning grassroots efforts with Age-Friendly Champions conversations.

11 Why Do This? It’s research to find out what the needs are.
It increases capacity. Not only are Pittsburgh professionals in on the work, but residents are bringing their strengths, too. It offers participants meaningful ways to contribute, connect and strengthen their ties to the community.
