Alingsås Alingsås library is situated in Alingsås, a town consisting of people. In the whole of Alingsås municipality there are inhabitants.

Alingsås library Alingsås library has a long history. It started out in a three room apartment, financed by a local businessman. Last year we celebrated its 100th birthday.

Library branches There are two branches within the rural district.
Both have shared responsibility towards the general public and to the elementary schools nearby.

A public library A large number of our visitors are students. But as a public library we have responsibility for serving people of all ages and categories, also people who cannot come to the library themselves.

A public library The library is the most frequently visited institution in the municipality with more than attenders each month. The library is also one of the municipal institutions that people are most satisfied with in Alingsås.

Outgoing work Every 4-year old in Alingsås can come to the library and collect his/her own book from the treasure chest. Once a week children can listen to fairy tales read by a storyteller. For even smaller children there are rhyme and music sessions.

Outgoing work The library staff take part in a great number of study visits, mainly from elementary schools. Practically every pupil in Alingsås visits the library on a regular basis.

The library and Lifelong learning
Since 2000 Alingsås library takes active part in Lifelong learning: Cooperation with the local Adult Education Centre. Recurrent Internet introductions for beginners. Increased purchase of student litterature

ICT education In 1994 we started information seminars about the Internet for the general public. In 2000 we began having regular Internet introductions for beginners.

ICT education At least 85 % of the people attending the Internet introductions are 60 years or older. Most of them have a computer at home, but they do not use it. (In Sweden 82 % of people aged have access to the Internet at home.)

ICT education Two goals:
To understand and manage the use of the address field. To understand and manage the use of a search engine.

ICT education The Internet introductions consists of 1 hour of theory and 1 ½ hour of practice. They are free of charge and well attended.
