5th Grade Parent Meeting
August 23, 2017
2
Thank you for coming to our 2017-2018 Parent Meeting!
Throughout this meeting we will discuss procedures and protocol for this school term.
3
Attendance and Early Dismissals
In order to receive the education that each child deserves, please keep absences and early dismissals to a minimum. Please send a doctor or parent note (limit of 8 per year) to excuse each absence. Every minute of every day is important when it comes to your child’s education! If there are any changes in how a student is to get home, please send this information to us in writing.

Classroom Management This year we are using Class Dojo as a behavior management system. This system is all online. You and your student have access to Class Dojo. All you need is your special code. Your child’s teacher has your code. Class Dojo is very simple. Students earn points for positive behaviors and lose points for negative behaviors. If you download the app to your phone, you have instant access to Dojo. The app will let you know when your child has lost or gained a point. Also, teachers may direct message you information.

Parent Contact/Newsletters
Due to our limited amount of copies, all of our classroom newsletters are available online (Google search Indian Springs Elementary School). Simply go to our school’s website. From there click school staff, select your child’s teacher, and their newsletter is available for download. This can be done through a computer or a Smart Phone. The school-wide newsletter (The Signal Post) is sent home with students monthly.

Field Trips Our students will go on 2 field trips this year. Our first trip is to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab and our second trip will be to the Environmental Center. Chaperones are always welcome, but please keep in mind that most field trips require lots of walking. Also, chaperones will be in charge of a group of 4-5 students, not just their own child. Smoking and uses of other substances is strictly prohibited. Our priority on all trips is the student’s learning and safety!

Homework Each child will have a small amount of homework nightly.
We encourage good study habits at school, and your child will greatly benefit from your encouragement at home.
