Sectionalism and Nationalism Tallmadge Amendment: Tallmadge of NY proposed an amendment to the bill which would prohibit slavery in Missouri Missouri Compromise: Missouri applied for statehood in Admission of a slave state would change the perfect balance that existed and give a voting advantage to either North or South.
