MEDIA LITERACY Today, we get most of our information through an interwoven system of media technologies. The ability to read many types of media has become an essential skill in the 21st Century. Media literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, and create media. Media literate youth and adults are better able to understand the complex messages we receive from television, radio, Internet, newspapers, magazines, books, billboards, video games, music, and all other forms of media. Media literacy skills are included in the educational standards of every state in language arts, social studies, health, science, and other subjects.  Many educators have discovered that media literacy is an effective and engaging way to apply critical thinking skills to a wide range of issues.

INFORMATION LITERACY Information literacy is a crucial skill in the pursuit of knowledge.  It involves recognizing when information is needed and being able to efficiently locate, accurately evaluate, effectively use, and clearly communicate information in various formats.  information literacy as "... the ability to know when there is a need for information, to be able to identify, locate, evaluate, and effectively use that information for the issue or problem at hand."

TECHNOLOGY LITERACY Technology literacy is the ability of an individual, working independently and with others, to responsibly, appropriately and effectively use technology tools to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and communicate information

Media Education

Media education is the process through which individuals become media literate – able to critically understand the nature, techniques and impacts of media messages and productions. Media education acknowledges and builds on the positive, creative and pleasurable dimensions of popular culture. It incorporates production of media texts and critical thinking – decoding, analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating media – to help us navigate through an increasingly complex media landscape.

TYPES OF MEDIA

PRINT MEDIA

Magazines, newspapers, flyers, newsletters, scholarly journals and other materials that are physically printed on paper are examples of print media. Whereas print media was once much more prevalent, the advent of e-books, digital publishing tools and applications have caused many groups that typically created print media to begin publishing through digital channels.

BROADCAST MEDIA

Broadcast Media Broadcast media is the most expedient means to transmit information immediately to the widest possible audience, although the Internet currently challenges television as the primary source of both news and other recreational content (e.g., movies, sitcoms, etc.). Broadcast media refers to primarily television and radio, although broadcasting companies have expanded to offer digital offerings including media streaming applications and other robust web-based offerings. Integration of the Internet has increased the pressure on broadcast media groups to deliver high quality information with minimum cost. To control costs, improving operations is more important for these groups now than ever before - this includes streamlining processes such as transmission and infrastructure management, content development, studio management and news operations.

New media are forms of media that are native to computers, computational and relying on computers for distribution. Some examples of new media are websites, mobile apps, virtual worlds, multimedia, computer games, human-computer interface, computer animation and interactive computer installations

How communication affected by media and information ?

????? Communication has become greatly changed by the use of the technology, Internet and social media. It has become easy to stay to ourselves and chat with the rest of the world without true interaction. We can hide behind our phones and our computers. We have lost the face to face communication skills that we used to have, people abbreviate words more so now a days. This combination ultimately affects human communication skills, but with that, maybe technology is trying to take over human beings

THE IMPORTANCE OF MEDIA

The value of media lies in its persuasive nature and its function as an information and entertainment source and binding influence in people . It gets your message across to a wider audience. The various forms of media – primarily television, newspapers and radio – spread and disseminate information. Getting your information into the media will spread your group's story further than it could be spread without media coverage.

It can help you target your message to the people you want to hear it
It can help you target your message to the people you want to hear it. The media is so varied that a community group or organisation can closely target almost any sector – and through them, almost any section of the public - by looking closely at where it is directing its media focus. It provides free publicity and exposure for not only your news, announcement, event or request – but for your group or organisation as well. A big benefit when it comes to news media coverage is that it is free – a factor of major importance when it comes to community groups or organisations with tight budgets And only does your event or news receive free publicity or new coverage, your group is bound to receive a boost through this coverage as well.

REFLECTION

Media and information literacy deals with the ability to critize and evaluate information with the use of knowdays technology that continously spread all over the world . Media is a powerful source of information that we need and very useful and convinient . With the use of modern technology and gadgets like cellphones , tablets , computer and many more we can easly access information . Our daily lives become easier knowdays knowing that all information that we need is easy to access any time and anywhere . And also media can be a powerful tool for communication , business , politics and education and because of this the influence of media satisfy us and we tend to rely on it everytime.

Looking back I can say that Media is important because it influences society in many different ways , But could we say it changes the way we behave or our attitudes towards things we perceive in the world we live in? Media is all around us, society is constantly interacting with social mediums for their own gratification, that gratification could be keeping in contact with friends and family or it could be sharing your experiences with the world through pictures and videos. Another gratification could be finding information easily and quickly using things such as the internet. But on the other I learned that media can also be a treat and cause bad when we abuse it . And knowing that we can easly access information because of this . There is also the fact that sometimes we tend to rely on information it provide but we didn’t know that sometimes it is not always right and it can cause bad result not only for us but can also affects other people or maybe world . Media can also be a tool for crime and because of its popularity everyone can be affected.

I believe that media has a huge importance and influence, there would be no possible way we could live without media and information that we derive from the media. But we are all unique individuals and have our own belief systems and backgrounds to be directly influenced by the media.
