1 Day 3- Treasure Hunt Setting Up

2 Materials for Setting Up
20 – 25 Small Paper Plates Double Sided Tape Masking/ Painter’s Tape Scotch Tape Parchment Paper Template

3 Clue Plates You should write the clues onto the parchment paper before taping to the plate. Five plates will have clues taped to the bottom and the remainder will be blank.

4 Spacing You need to section off a large area using the masking/ painter’s tape. This section should be large enough to accommodate your clues (if you have written your own.) If you are only using the five provided, it should be a minimum of 150 square inches.

5 Plate Placement To complete this part, you will need to first place the clue plates, then the decoy plates. On the back of the first clue plate, write “start” so your students know where to start. Then, follow the clues and measure out where the clue plates need to be placed. Tape them to the floor in the exact spot that the students will find them. Finally, sporadically tape the decoy plates to the floor.

6 Plate Placement Continued
Place plates FACED down so that the students have to search for the clue plates. Tape them in place!

7 Plate Placement Continued
Students should see plates in a random order. They will use the clues to navigate their way through the plates. Only the “start” plate should be labeled.

8 Completing the Treasure Hunt
Students will solve the clues hidden on the plates. Then, they will use their number lines to measure the distance given on the clue in the direction given on the clue.
