Respect To show regard for the worth of people, including yourself.

Respect The ethical duty is to treat everyone with respect — not to respect everyone in the sense that we hold all people in high esteem or admire them.

1. Honor the individual worth and dignity of others. 2. Show courtesy and civility. 3. Live by the Golden Rule. 4. Accept differences and judge on character and ability. 5. Respect the autonomy of others. 6. Avoid actual or threatened violence.

It is disrespectful to abuse, insult, demean, harass, bully or physically harm any person.

Responsibility We all know life is full of choices . . . Responsibility is the moral obligation to choose attitudes, words, and actions and the duty to accept personal responsibility for the consequences of those actions.

Responsibility Responsibility is not just about what you do — but also about what you don’t do!

Responsibility Choosing not to choose is a choice. Choosing whether to be conscious and concerned about the consequences of what you say and do, including the choice to be willfully blind, is a choice.

Responsibility For every decision you make it starts a chain reaction that affects the actions, decisions and lives of thousands of others for years to come. This is called the stakeholder effect.

Personal Responsibility and Collective Responsibility
EPIC Success Descriptors— Personal Responsibility and Collective Responsibility Help students develop the motivation and skills to practice self-discipline. Help students develop a sense of responsibility toward their class and schoolmates. Help students create a balance of community support and challenge for individual strengths and weaknesses.

EPIC Success Descriptors— Personal Responsibility and Collective Responsibility Help students develop appropriate responses to what it means to be a member of their classroom and school. “That’s not how we do things here.” “At our school, we show respect for others.”

EPIC Success Descriptors— Personal Responsibility and Collective Responsibility Teachers need to give students the pleasure of saying “we” rather than “I.” By saying “we,” the child is aware that a supportive, dependable community is behind him or her. In order to develop the pleasure of saying “we,” teachers must call students’ attention to the spirit of the class or pride in the school and seize upon whatever events draw members of a class or a school together as occasions for furthering their collective consciousness.

Try to get others to follow the rules? Intervene when they see someone being picked on? Help other students choose between what’s right and wrong?

Empathy & Caring Caring means one shows love, regard, or concern for the well-being of others. It includes being compassionate, empathetic, kind, loving, considerate, and thankful. A caring person expresses gratitude and is forgiving of others.

Empathy & Caring Caring is an attitude and behavior that can be learned and practiced. Emotion often follows behavior.

Empathy & Caring Concern for Others To engage or involve yourself in the well-being of others as if your happiness depended on theirs.

Empathy & Caring Compassion Sorrow or concern for the suffering of others accompanied by the urge to help.

Honesty Truthfulness – representing facts and intentions to the best of one’s knowledge Sincerity – being genuine without trickery or duplicity Candor – volunteering information another person would want to know; being frank, forthright, and open

Integrity Moral wholeness demonstrated by a consistency of thoughts, words, deeds and duties.

Integrity Self-respect and self-esteem are essential to feelings of worthiness, fulfillment, contentment, and peace of mind — attitudes necessary to a personal sense of integrity.

People With Integrity People without integrity are often called hypocrites or “two-faced.” People who cannot be consistently counted on to demonstrate integrity cannot be trusted.

People With Integrity Stand up for their beliefs openly and boldly Listen to their conscience and live by their values no matter what others say and no matter the personal cost Are honorable and upright in all actions Build and guard their reputations

Moral Courage Moral courage is mental strength: the power of will to resist pressures and hold onto important values even in the face of criticism, embarrassment, unpopularity, losing something you want, or injuring a relationship.

Moral Courage It takes moral courage to accept defeat without losing heart and to stand up for personal beliefs when you stand alone.

Citizenship Fulfill your civic duties. Do your share. Respect authority. Pursue civic virtues.

Civic duty implies obligations to contribute to the overall public good. It refers to ethical obligations and standards of conduct that establish minimal requirements of ethical citizenship.

Be a good citizen and a good neighbor. Care about and pursue the common good. Be a volunteer. Help your school and community be better, cleaner, and safer.

Priorities The problem comes when you find yourself making decisions that don't line up with your priorities. These decisions pull your focus and distract you away from your values and what you truly want out of life.

Priorities Decide what your core values are and make decisions that line up with those values. Universal Values like U R A(an) EPIC are what we want our society and community to value and thus bring peace, harmony and unity to us all.
