John was a barber in Carlisle Pennsylvania
He initially served in Col. Thomas Proctor's First Pennsylvania Artillery (1775–76)

4. Life in the war Her husband was a private in the Battle of Monmouth
She eventually joined her husband in the war as a camp follower during the Philadelphia Campaign
She earned her title “Molly Pitcher” from carrying pitchers of water to her husband’s campsite

5. After the war
After the war Mary and William went back to Pennsylvania and settled in Carlisle
Mary went back to work as a “charwomen” in the State House of Carlisle
Several years later, John died
