Learning Preference Inventories

Doing projects about what we are learning? Listening to me teach? Reading the textbook?

What is a learning preference inventory?
We just did a small one! A questionnaire or survey to find out what type of learning style a student has. Each person learns in different ways.

Why would I take a learning preference inventory, Ms. Nistler?
To become better learners! Once you know, you can change how you study do assignments!

Information enters your brain three main ways:
Sight Hearing Touch The one you use the most is called your learning style

Visual Learners learn by sight Auditory Learners learn by hearing
Tactile Learners (kinesthetic) learn by touch

What is intelligence? The ability to solve problems that one encounters in real life The ability to generate new problems to solve The ability to make or offer something that is valued. There are 7 types of intelligence: Verbal/Linguistic Logical/Mathematical Musical Visual/Spatial Body/Kinesthetic Interpersonal Intrapersonal

Think Love Need Interpersonal By bouncing ideas off other people
leading, organizing, relating manipulating, mediating, partying, etc. friends, group games, social gatherings, community events, clubs

All of these little critters in these clips are probably interpersonal learners because they are good at working in a group!

Think Love Need Bodily/Kinesthetic through bodily sensations
dancing, running, jumping, building, touching, gesturing role play, drama, movement, things to build, sports, and physical games, tactile experiences, hands-on-learning

The panda learns by DOING the work with his body. I bet he is a bodily/kinesthetic learner!

Visual/Spatial Think Love Need in images and pictures designing, drawing, visualizing, doodling, etc. art, LEGOs, video, movies, slides, imagination games, mazes, puzzles, illustrated books, trips to the museum

Rapunzel loves to draw, paint, and visualize what her life could be. She is probably a visual/spatial learner!

Think Love Need Intrapersonal deeply inside themselves
setting goals, meditating, dreaming, being quiet secret places, time alone, self- paced projects, choices

Belle may be interpersonal because she keeps to herself and dreams of what could be.

Think Love Need Musical via rhythms and melodies
singing, whistling, humming, tapping feet and hands, listening, etc. sing-along time, trips to concerts, music playing at home and school, musical instruments

The people who write “School House Rock” are probably have musical intelligence!

Logical/Mathematical
Think Love Need by reasoning Experimenting, questioning, figuring out puzzles, calculating, etc. things to explore and think about, science materials, manipulative, trips to the planetarium and science museum

Jackie, Matt, and Inez from Cyberchase think logically and mathematically in order to solve their problems!

Think Love Need Linguistics in words
reading, writing, telling stories, playing words games, etc. books, tapes, writing tools, paper diaries, dialogues, discussion

This dog is probably a linguistic learner. He listens to his owners talk and tries to replicate their sounds.
