Examples of how humans have interacted and changed the environment through the ages

Early Man Society- A group of people living and working under a set of rules and traditions. Nomads-a person with no settled home. Paleolithic Era-the earliest period of the stone age. Hunters and Gathers-members of Homo sapiens who spent many hours a day searching for food.

Farmers and City Dwellers
Slash And Burn Farming- a system of farming in which thick forestlands are cut and burned to prepare the soil for planting Abu Hureyra-a Neolithic village and excavation site flooded by Lake Assad in 1973 A.D Government- an organized system of leaders and laws Catal Huyuk-a Neolithic town in Southern Anatolia

Mesopotamia Silt-soil and tiny rocks carried or deposited on the land by floodwaters Polytheism-a belief in many different gods Architecture-a style of building Ziggurat-the largest and tallest temple in every Sumerian city- state

Egypt Pyramid-a structure that served as a tomb for Egyptian rulers
Nation-State-a region with a united group of people and a single government Papyrus-A paperlike material on which ancient Egyptians wrote Afterlife- life after death

Greece Ismuthus-a small strip of land connecting larger land areas
Island- a body of land surrounded by water Harbor- a sheltered place with deep water close to shore Peninsula- a stretch of land almost completely surrounded by water

Rome Road- a narrow, long clearing that can be traversed on by carts, vehicles, and foot Aqueduct-a system of bridges and canals that carry water from a natural source, such as a river, to a town Concrete- a manmade substance that turns from liquid to rock and is used for building Colosseum- is a large amphitheater in the city of Rome, Italy constructed for entertainment
