For every 3 oranges, there are 4 strawberries.
For every 4 strawberries, there are 3 oranges.

5. Part to Part
One way to compare ratios is to compare a part to a part. The examples below compare part to part.
For every 3 oranges, there are 4 strawberries.
For every 4 strawberries, there are 3 oranges.

6. Part to Whole
One way to compare ratios is to compare a part to a whole. The examples below compare part to whole.
There are 3 oranges to 7 pieces of fruit.
There are 4 strawberries to 7 pieces of fruit.

7. Whole to Part
One way to compare ratios is to compare a whole to a part. The examples below compare whole to a part.
There are 7 pieces of fruit to 3 oranges .
There are 7 pieces of fruit to 4 strawberries

Example 1: Write the following ratios three different ways. Tell if they are part to part, part to whole or whole to part.
1). Ratio of blue shapes to yellow shapes.
2). Ratio of total shapes to yellow circles.
3). Ratio of green squares to total shapes.
2 to 3, 2:3 , 2/3 part to part
10 to 2, 10:2, 10/2 whole to part 5 to 1 is also acceptable

We can use a picture to help us compare the ingredients.
