Working in partnership
We want to encourage good parent teacher relationships, communication is key. Please do not hesitate to connect us with any questions or problems you may have. Use your child’s home school diary, write notes, book an appointment to see us at an appropriate time We want to support you as much as possible

Support If you have any free time, come in and help out in class and listen to children reading

Transition to year 3 It is quite a step up to Y3, especially the longer day and the expectation for them to take greater responsibility to organise themselves.

Homework… Maths and English homework will be sent weekly
It should take about minutes. Maths and English will be sent home on a Friday to be handed in on the following Tuesday. Spellings Timetables Please complete in pencil and hand in before or on the day asked.

If they struggle with homework, please let us know.
Don’t let homework turn into a battle, let your child take the lead, but if they need it do support and help explain, otherwise tell us and we can help them to do it.

Spellings It is very important that your child learns to spell correctly. (handout) Please help your child to learn these over the next few months. New curriculum statutory spellings (year 3&4) Statutory spellings will also be put on the website Spelling test each week.

Reading Please try to read with your child every night. Not just them reading to you, they could be listening or reading to a younger sibling. Each time they have read, please record this in their homework diaries. Recommended reading list is on the website Variety of reading- Comics, magazines, books, instructions, road signs

English New curriculum- a lot of emphasis on Grammar.
We want children to feel encouraged and confident. Use any opportunities to write- can be anything- Shopping lists, something I enjoyed today, single lined diary entries, writing stories Encourage imagination- writing is fun, not a chore.

Maths We are now teaching Maths Mastery approach which encourages children to explain and reason their strategies/thinking. Times tables, addition, subtraction, questions and games practise in the car, on a trip, shopping, using coins Times tables focus. By the end of year 4 the expectation is for children to be confident with all of their times tables.

New curriculum There has been importance placed on cross curricular teaching through a theme or topic. This term our theme is the Egyptians. Our theme will be evident across a range of subjects. Curriculum information will be on the website under class page.

York The Romans Year 3 is the first residential your children will experience at Marlborough. 2 days, 1 night. Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th March Approximatly£112 depending on number of children.

Dates: Monday 26rd and Tuesday 27th March
Objectives of the visit: Use practical scientific and archaeological activities to find out about life in the past. Simulate Roman village life to learn about daily routines, army life, roles and responsibilities; Use role play to develop understanding of history.

Day 1 The school day will start earlier than usual.The coach will leave school -approximately 8.0o am. The coach will arrive at Murton Park at approximately 10.30am where we will be met by the chief Roman. The children will be equipped with their uniform, helmet, spear and shield, the children will then be put through their paces learning how a fort is built and laid out before going on to learn the skills of weapons training (using dummy weapons!), guard duty, craft work, and parade ground drill. The children will receive a well deserved days pay at the end of their working day!

Racecourse We will travel by coach to the Racecourse where we will have dinner and have evening activities in the common room. The children will be put into small groups for their rooms, these vary from 2-4 children per room. Security- outside doors are key coded Teachers have keys to the bedrooms Adults sleep in rooms along the corridor and all of the children clearly know which room it is.

The children are tired after their first exciting day and therefore we work a lights out at 9pm after time to chat. All bedrooms have en-suites which include a basin and toilet, therefore have no need to leave their bedrooms at night. Children are up early for breakfast and packing the next day in preparation for their day at the Yorkshire Museum.

Day 2 Yorkshire Museum After a full breakfast we will travel by coach to the Yorkshire museum. The children will take part in a Roman workshop called ‘Exploring Eboracum’ where they will carry out Roman activities and continue to develop their understanding of Roman life. Learning objectives: Describe customs introduces by the Romans Analyse archaeological evidence Difference between Roman citizens and Roman slaves.

Lunch- provided by the accommodation.
Explore the gardens and city walls. Leave to arrive back at school approximately 5.45pm.
