1 S12700 CSS Card Clustering 1 Components and Tools 2 Installing Cards
SFUs, CSS cards, cluster cables , or optical modules and optical fibers Labels, cable ties, diagonal pliers, screwdriver, ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves Install CSS cards on SFUs. Install SFUs in chassis. CSS cards are hot swappable. 3 Connecting Cables Precautions: When installing a cable, optical module, or optical fiber, insert it until you hear a click. To remove a cable, optical module, or optical fiber, gently push the handle or connector , and then pull it out. The bend radius of cluster cables or optical fibers must be larger than their minimum bend radius (SFP+ to SFP+ cables: ≥ 25 mm; AOC cables: ≥ 30 mm; optical fibers: ≥ 40 mm). Before connecting optical fibers to service ports, install optical modules on the ports. Cables are directly connected to service ports. Procedure: Attach number labels to both ends of each cluster cable. Connect cluster cables. Eight SFP+ ports on a CSS card belong to two groups (group 1 includes ports1-4 and group 2 includes ports 5-8). Connect cluster cables according to the following rules: (1) Each CSS card can be connected to only one CSS card in the other chassis and cannot be connected to a CSS card in the local chassis. (2) Ports in group 1 in one chassis can only be connected to ports in group 1 in the other chassis, and the ports can be connected in any sequence. The same rule applies to group 2. (3) The two chassis must be connected by at least one cluster cable. Take S12708 chassis for example. The following figure shows the recommended cluster cable connections. It is recommended that you connect the cluster cables in the following way: (1) Connect ports in one chassis to the ports with the same port numbers in the other chassis. (2) Install at least two CSS cards in each chassis. (3) The number of cluster cables is an even number and the same on each CSS card. (The cluster bandwidth may be affected if CSS cards have different numbers of cluster cables connected.) Route cables through cable management frames and bundle the cables. Cable connection rules for S12708 and S12712 switches are the same. S12708 switches are used as an example here. Item: Issue: 01
