2 Democracy In a democracy, the government is elected by the people. Everyone who is eligible to vote has a chance to have their say over who runs the country. A democracy is determined either directly or through elected representatives.

3 Direct Democracy Pure Democracy All citizens participate directly
Every citizen’s vote counts on every issue Only citizens can vote Majority rules—whoever or whatever gets the most votes wins Ancient Greece was an example of a direct democracy

4 Republic The head of the country is usually an elected president.
People elect officials to represent them Elected officials meet to make decisions for the country Representative Democracy United States is an example of a republic Only citizens can vote
