Misson The mission of the Intelligent Large Scale Sensing Systems initiative (ILS3) is to create and maintain a collaborative, multidisciplinary research and development laboratory, shared by multiple faculty, enabling the department to establish a tradition of excellence in the field of distributed task-specific sensing, sensor fusion and sensor network technology and applications. ILS3 will allow the Department and the University to contribute to the solution of important regional and national problems.

Project Workspaces Projects defined within 3 generic “workspaces”
Workspaces suggested to: Collect broad research areas Cover multiple disciplines/levels Roughly oriented to: Applied Research (“Applied Technology” workspace) Basic Research (“Core Infrastructure Technology” workspace) Integration (“Large System Architectures” workspace) Within a research specific projects are undertaken by Integrated Project Team (IPT) Ad hoc Team of researchers
7
Progress Identified and developed two application projects
Developing a large NSF proposal Initiated partnership with Ft. Huachuca Army Intelligence Command – Battle Labs Information Systems Engineering Command – Technology Integration Center Developing contacts at DARPA and sensor community
8
NEXT STEPS Establish the collaborative Lab Complete the NSF proposal
Finish setting up the sensor test-bed Complete the NSF proposal Begin outreach to other UA departments for applications requirements Hydrology, Optics, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering
