Fig. 1 Life-table analysis of occurrence of treatment failures in patients treated with ciprofloxacin (—; 38 patients) or placebo (- - -; 45 patients) in addition to conventional treatment with steroids and mesalamine. Steroids were started with 0.75 mg/kg, reduced to 0.25 mg/kg at monthly intervals, and tapered off after 3 months. Ciprofloxacin or placebo was administered for 6 months, and mesalamine was administered throughout the 12 months (open arrow, control visit; closed arrow, colonoscopy).
